NEWMAC Honors Seven Cross Country Runners
BABSON PARK, Mass., November 7, 2005 – Springfield College seniors Pat Byrne (Tolland, Conn.) and Scott Barton (Fort Plain, N.Y.), and junior Tetsuji Kambara (Osaka, Japan) have been named to the 2005 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team, as announced this past weekend.
The NEWMAC also honored four members of the women’s cross country team as Academic All-Conference; sophomores Jennifer Stoskus (Washington, N.J.) and Jess Borsotti (Westfield, Mass.), junior Jackie Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.), and senior Meghan Young (Hurley, N.Y.). In order to qualify for All-Academic standing, each student-athlete must have second-year standing and have a cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) of at least a 3.5.
Byrne and Barton are both sport management majors at SC, as each averaged a 3.7 last semester with cumulative GPA’s of 3.55 and 3.52, respectively. Kambara is studying athletic training and has earned a 3.77 GPA over his first two years at SC.
For the women’s team, Borsotti is a physician’s assistant major with a 3.84 cumulative GPA after earning a 3.83 last semester. Stoskus has also earned a 3.84 cumulative GPA in the physical therapy program. Knoblock has a team-high 3.95 GPA in the sport management major while earning a 3.94 last spring. Young, a movement studies major, earned the only perfect GPA (4.0) last spring and is currently holding a cumulative 3.59 grade-point-average.
Springfield College will host the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Regional Championships this Saturday (Nov. 12) at Veterans Golf Course. The women’s race will start at 11:00 am while the men’s race will begin at noon. The top five women’s teams and next five individuals, as well as the top three men’s teams and next seven individuals will qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships in Delaware, Ohio on November 19.
