

WORCESTER, Mass., September 17, 2005 - Springfield College junior middle blocker MaryKathryn O'Neil (Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded a team-best 11 kills to go along with four solo blocks and four block assists as the Pride swept Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), 3-0 (30-15, 30-22, 30-18), in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 17).
SC improves to 9-1 overall on the season with the win, and 2-0 in conference action. Senior captain Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) compiled 26 assists, and senior opposite Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) added seven kills and six digs.
Junior Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) had yet another solid performance for SC at libero, collecting team-highs in digs (14) and service aces (four).
The Pride will next return home for a big NEWMAC contest with Coast Guard on Tuesday evening, September 20, in a 7:00 p.m. start.
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
