SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 21, 2004 - Springfield College senior Chris Sweeney (Wakefield, Mass.) won at #3 singles and #2 doubles, but Babson defeated SC, 4-3, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s tennis action today on Appleton Courts.
Senior Yuta Yoshi (Yokosuka, Japan) won his #1 singles match in compelling fashion, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. Sophomore Justin Freitas (East Providence, R.I.) lost a heartbreaker, 5-7, 6-0, 7-6 (11-9) but won at #2 doubles with Sweeney.
For Babson, junior Jon Martin (Watchung, N.J.) won both his #1 doubles match and his #3 singles match. Junior Mike Brooks(Hagerstown, Md.)won his #1 doubles match with Martin. Senior Gabriel Ackerman (Buenos Aires, Argentina) won at #2 singles for the Beavers.
The Beavers improve to 11-8 (4-2 NEWMAC) while the Pride fallS to 4-6 (3-3 NEWMAC).
