Women's Gymnastics Places Fifth At ECAC Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa., March 9, 2002- Springfield College senior Gina Gutierrez (South Setaucket, N.Y.) placed third on the vault (9.475) to lead the Pride to a fifth-place finish at the ECAC Division III Women's Gymnastics Championships at Ursinus College.

The Pride qualify for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships, which will be held on March 22-23 at Ithaca, College in Ithaca, N.Y. SC is one of four teams representing the East Region along with SUNY-Cortland, Ithaca and Ursinus.

Gutierrez was one of three SC gymnasts to finish in the top eight. Senior Melissa McCormack (Fleming, N.J) scored a 9.025 and was eighth on the uneven bars, and freshman Amanda Roth (Bloomfield, N.Y.) also finished eighth on the balance beam with a 9.325.
