

DANBURY, Conn, -- November 27, 2007 The Springfield College women’s basketball team was held without a field goal for 20:31 bridging the first and second halves as it fell on the road to Western Connecticut, 69-42, on Tuesday evening.
The loss drops the Pride to 2-2 on the season while WCSU improves to 3-1.
The Pride raced out to a 21-11 lead with 8:17 to go before it would go ice cold from the field. The Colonials closed out the first half on a 20-2 run to hold a 31-23 lead heading into the locker room.
WCSU continued its hot shooting as it netted the first eight points of the second half and never looked back. Springfield managed to shoot just 19.2% in the second stanza as it tallied just 19 second-half points.
Tara McCarthy (Bristol, R.I.) led the way for Springfield with 13 points in the game as she shot 5 of 10 from the field while Lauren O’Connor (Valhalla, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds. Amelia Sapowsky (Ware, Mass.) registered eight points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Pride. Christine Cotter (Stoughton, Mass.) also snagged seven boards in the game.
The Pride return to action on Friday evening at 6:00 pm when it takes on Western New England College in the Pioneer Valley Classic. The tournament will be hosted by Amherst College.
Entering her 19th season as head coach in 2009-10, Naomi Graves has directed her squads to an impressive 266-117 record (.695 winning percentage) since joining the Division III ranks in 1995. Graves has led the Pride to eleven post-season bids in the past 14 years, including five berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the past nine years.
