

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 21, 2006 – Springfield College freshman guard Ryan Blackmon (Stamford, Conn.) came off the bench to pour in a season-high 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and 5-of-10 shooting from three-point territory as the Pride downed non-conference foe, Curry College, 76-67, in SC’s 2006-07 home opener this evening at Blake Arena.
The Pride, now 2-1, used a 22-5 run that spanned just over 10 minutes in the second half after the contest was knotted at 50 apiece with 13:32 left to play. In SC’s run, Blackmon contributed with three shots beyond the arc and 13 of his 23 points to help lift the Pride to its second win in three games.
SC freshman forward Pat Crean (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) netted a season-best 17 points in the victory, adding four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Senior point guard Anthony Pizzo (Clifton Park, N.Y.) also chipped in with a season-high of his own on the evening, recording 10 assists to go along with five points.
The Colonels (0-3) were led by senior forward Toby Brittian, who equaled Blackmon’s output with 23 points of his own. Brittian went 8-for-16 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line, while collecting four rebounds and three blocks. Senior guard Stephen Prescod scored 15 points for Curry on three-of-four shooting from deep.
After the Thanksgiving break, the Pride will travel to Tufts University for yet another non-league match-up on Tuesday evening, November 28th, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Charlie Brock in 2009-10 will enter his 12th season as the head coach at Springfield College. Brock’s achievements as a coach are certainly impressive, as he has taken three schools to the NCAA Division III Tournament and has an overall, 29-year record of 394-363 for a winning percentage of .520.
