Wrestling Wins Twice, Loses Once at the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 12, 2007) – The Springfield College wrestling team managed to win twice while losing once today at the Budd Whitehill National Dual Tourney at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Overall, Springfield, ranked #13 in the nation and #2 in New England Division III, was seeded 3rd in this prestigious tourney.

In the day’s first dual-meet, SC defeated unranked Messiah College of Grantham, Pa., 29-12. In that match, it was 12-all, but SC went on to win the final four matches. Later, it was Springfield winning again over unranked Case Western, 22-16. In that one, the Pride trailed 10-9 after just four bouts. But after eight bouts, SC led, 22-10. In the last dual of the day for SC, the Pride was down 16-0 to #22-ranked Ithaca, and never did make a match of it. It was the second loss to Ithaca in four days.

By going 2-1 on the day, Springfield is now 6-3 on the season. The Budd Whitehill Duals include 18 teams. The second day of competition will come tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 13).
