

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., February 18, 2006 – Springfield College junior Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass.) placed second in the shot put (52’ 4 ¾”) to lead the Pride to a 14th-place tie out of 25 teams this weekend at the New England Division III Championships hosted by MIT in Cambridge, Mass.
The final team scores were as follows: Williams (153), Tufts (131), Bates (62.5), MIT (57.5), Coast Guard (36), Brandeis (35), Westfield State (33), Southern Maine (31), Bowdoin (26), Eastern Connecticut State (24), Amherst College (21), Salem State (18), Wesleyan (17), SC (16), WPI (16), Trinity (15), Middlebury (15), Keene State (14), Worcester State (12), UMass Dartmouth (10), RIC (10), Colby (9), Fitchburg State (7), Bridgewater State (6), Conn College (5).
In the running events, SC freshmen Eric Nacsin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Mike Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) scored points for the Pride. Nacsin finished in seventh place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.42. Griffin crossed the line in 2:36.58 in the 1,000-meter run to also place seventh.
SC sophomore Dominic Uguccioni (Colrain, Mass.) took fifth place in the weight throw with a toss of 53’ 8 ¼”.
The men’s track and field team will next travel to Boston, Mass., to compete in the New England Championships at Boston University on Friday and Saturday, February 24-25.
