Williams Hands Women's Soccer First Loss, 4-0
Box ScoreWILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- September 12, 2007 --The Springfield College women’s soccer team lost for the first time in the 2007 campaign on Wednesday afternoon by the score of 4-0 at Williams. The Pride, who entered the match ranked 23rd in the country in the latest D3kicks.com poll, falls to 4-1 while the Ephs improve to 3-0.
Springfield managed just one shot in the contest and that came from junior forward Nicole Hanewich (Cumberland, R.I.) in the second half. Sue Jenney (Agawam, Mass.) recorded eight saves in the game and was spelled by Katie Delude's (Chicopee, Mass.) first collegiate game action in goal.
The Ephs netted three goals in the first half and opened up the scoring just under the eight minute mark when Brianna Wolfson tallied an unassisted goal. Goals from Gabrielle Woodson and Claire Gallagher closed out the first half scoring for Williams, which went into the locker room leading 3-0. The Ephs outshot the visitors 9-0 in the first stanza. Sarah Walmsley closed out the scoring in the match for Williams with a tally at the 84:32 mark.
Springfield returns to action when it hosts RPI on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader. Earlier, the Springfield men's team takes conference-foe Babson at 1:00 p.m.

Head Coach John Gibson
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 10th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2009. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in three of the last four years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 110-56-14 record.
