SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- April 22, 2008 -- Steve Posner, head men's gymnastics coach at Springfield College for the past 26 years, has been named the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches East Region Coach of the Year for the 2008 season.
It is the second time Steve has earned this award, also doing so in 2002. The award was presented to Posner on April 16 at the NACGC's annual banquet during the NCAA Division I National Championships at Stanford University.
"This award means a lot to me," said Posner. "It is one that is awarded by your peers. I must say I was honored, humbled, and surprised."

It is also his second major award in a two-year span. Posner last year (2007) earned the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) Honor Award, given annually to a member-coach of 25 years or more.
Springfield men's gymnastics had a good season in 2008, highlighted by its first victory over Army in 26 years. A total of six Springfield gymnasts qualified for the NCAA Division I Championships as individuals. At that meet, Josh Fox finished tied for 25th (Springfield's highest finish) in the floor exercise.
