Women's Volleyball Finishes Third In Endicott Invitational

BEVERLY, Mass. -- September 8, 2007 -- The Springfield College women's volleyball team split a pair of games in the second day of the Endicott Invitational and finished in third place overall.

Junior Heidi Yohe (Deer Park, Wash.) was named to the All-Tournament Team after she recorded four double-doubles on the weekend to pace the Pride to a 3-1 record. Springfield currently stands at 5-2 on the year.

In the first game of the day, New Jersey City College topped the Pride in five games by the scores of 30-16, 27-30, 25-30, 30-14, 15-4. Aylene Ilkson (Baldwin, N.Y.) led the way in the match for Springfield with 14 kills and 17 digs while Yohe added 10 kills and 17 digs of her own.

In the third place game, the Pride took on Keene State College and won in four games, 30-26, 23-30, 30-28, 30-26. Ilkson and freshman Bethany Stosz (Amherst, Mass.) each hammered out 16 kills, and both excelled on the defensive side of the ball in the match. Ilkson recorded 22 digs while Stosz added three solo blocks and five block assists. Yohe chipped in with 13 kills and 17 digs to complete her outstanding weekend.

The Pride opens up conference play when it takes on Wellesley on Tuesday, September 11, in Blake Arena at 7:00 p.m.
