

WORCESTER, Mass. – October 25, 2007 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team dropped its season opener at Holy Cross on Wednesday evening, 128-113.
Andrew Blakesley (West Springfield, Mass.) led the way for the Pride with three first-place finishes. Blakesley touched first in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:24.98, the 100 freestyle in 49.04, and the 500 freestyle in 4:58.81. Justin Zook (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also had a pair of victories in the meet as he finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.40 and in the 200 backstroke, 2:08.08.The Pride swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with Ben Casavant (Acton, Mass.) placing first in each. Casvant sscored a 241.11 on the 1-meter and a 239.70 on the 3-meter board. Matt Fitzgerald (Pelham, N.H.) finished second on the 1-meter (227.26) and third on the 3-meter (207.37) while Michael Osborne (Middletown, Conn.) recorded a second-place finish on the 3-meter (223.95) and a third-place finish on the 1-meter (226.72)
The Pride return to action on Saturday when it travels to take on Southern Connecticut State at 1:00 p.m.
John Taffe enters his 21st season in 2009-2010 as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at Springfield College. Under Taffe’s leadership, the Pride has returned to its status as one of the best collegiate swimming and diving programs in Division III. Read more.
