MEDFORD, Mass., February 18, 2006 – Springfield College freshman Silvienne Krosendijk (Seroe Biento, Aruba) won the long jump with a leap of 17’ 11” and All-New England Division III honors, as the Pride scored 44 points en route to an eighth place finish out of 22 competing teams at the New England Division III Championships hosted by Tufts University in Medford, Mass.
Final team scores were as follows: Williams (154), Tufts (122.33), Amherst (66), Bowdoin (52), Brandeis (48), Keene State (47), Bates (44.5), SC (44), Wesleyan (39), Colby (38.33), Southern Maine (33), Middlebury (26), MIT (25.5), Trinity (18), Rhode Island College (13), Mount Holyoke (12), Smith College (8), Coast Guard (7), Worcester State (6), Connecticut College (6), Bridgewater State (5.33), and UMass Dartmouth (4).
Both the 4x200 and 4x400-meter relay teams topped their past performances, and also earned All-New England Division III honors. The 4x200- meter relay team of senior Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.), freshman Vanessa Ricketts (Greenfield, Mass.), junior Jen McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y.), and Krosendijk ran a season-best 1:46.84 to win the race. The 4x400-meter relay team of senior Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.), McBride, freshman Katie Parente (Torrington, Conn.), and sophomore Kristyn Meade (Raynham, Mass.) also ran a season-best, crossing the line in 4:03.37 and finishing third overall.
Other point scoring events which earned All-New England Division III honors for the Pride included Goris’ third place finish in the 55-meter dash (7.37 seconds), Krosendijk’s sixth place finish in the 55-meter dash (7.51 seconds), Miner’s third place finish in the 400-meter dash (59.82 seconds), Ricketts seventh place leap in the long jump (16’3 ¼”), and junior Rachel DiSaia’s (Waterford, Conn.) personal-best eighth place toss in the weight throw (44’2 ¾”).
The women’s track and field team will next compete at the New England Championships at Boston University on Friday, February 24, and Saturday, February 25.
