Men's Soccer Downs Bridgewater State, 4-1

Box score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 6, 2004 - Springfield College freshman Tony Distasio (Burlington, Conn.) scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Pride defeated Bridgewater State, 4-1, in a non-conference men’s soccer match this afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.

This is the Pride’s second consecutive victory, and career-win 199 for head coach Peter Haley.

Distasio assisted the game-winning goal in the 49th minute when freshman Colin Cook (Wilbraham, Mass.) drove his cross into the back of the net.

Junior Justin Pepoli (Ashburnham, Mass.) tallied the first goal of the match just :47 after the opening whistle for his fourth goal in the last three matches. Bridgewater State notched a goal of their own when senior Topher Paone chested in a free kick that bounced off of the crossbar.

Cook netted his second goal of the season just nine minutes into the second half to break the 1-1 draw. In the 59th minute, Distasio put the match out of reach when he drove a Pepoli pass past the Bears goalkeeper. Less than a minute later, sophomore Matt Sullivan (Springfield, Mass.) drilled the back of the net with the help of a Distasio feed.

SC will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 9 when it hosts WPI in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tilt.
