Women's Gymnastics Defeats D-II Southern Connecticut

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Feb. 20, 2005 – Springfield College sophomore
Jillian Silverman (Ipswich, Mass.) was triumphant on the vault and uneven parallel bars as the Pride defeated Southern Connecticut State University today in Blake Arena, 186.000–183.775.
Silverman won the vault competition with a score of 9.350 and the uneven parallel bars scoring a 9.450. Sophomores
Jillian Pacheco (Hyannis, Mass.) and
Heather Tuden (Londonderry, N.H.) placed second and third behind Silverman on vault with scores of 9.100 and 9.050, respectively.
Junior
Larissa Tabin (Holyoke, Mass.) added another first-place for the Pride. Tabin scored a 9.700 to win the floor exercise, followed by Tuden who placed third (9.625) for Pride. Tabin also placed second on the balance beam with a score of 9.475.
Senior Sara Wesley (Pittsfield, Mass.) posted the only first-place for the Owls. Wesley scored a 9.550 to win the balance beam.
On the men’s side, senior All-American
Nelson Jimenez (Salem, N.H.) led SC but the Pride fell to Division I Temple University 204.100-199.250 today in Blake Arena.
Jimenez took the only first place of the day for the Pride as he won the vault competition with a score of 9.075. SC also received a second place finish from junior
Andrew Malaby (West Warwick, R.I.) on the rings (8.600).
Temple freshman Luke Vexler (Amherst, Mass.) led the way for the Owls by winning three events. Vexler won the all-around competition (51.625), pommel horse (8.900), and the floor routine (9.000).
