Men's Track and Field Competes at Williams College Relays

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., April 8, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore John Lewis (Fitchburg, Mass.) finished first in the hammer (141' 2") and second in the discus (149' 10") as the Pride competed in a non-scoring meet at the Williams College Relays in Williamstown, Mass., this afternoon.

Lewis' performances at Williams this afternoon have qualified him for the Division III New England Championships and ECAC Championships, both of which will be hosted by Springfield College. Lewis also qualified for the All-Division New England's at MIT.

Junior Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass.) placed second in the shot put competition (50' 4 3/4") and fifth in the discus (135' 4") to qualify for New England's. Other New England qualifiers included junior Cameron Turchetti (South Deerfield, Mass.), with a second-place finish in the javelin throw (181' 3"), and freshmen Chris Westcott (Watertown, Conn.) and Tom Potenza (Cranston, R.I.) in the 10,000.

In the field relay events, the Pride finished first in the hammer, shot put, and pole vault relays. SC's javelin and discus relay squads both finished in second place.

The Pride will next host WPI and the Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon, April 15th, in an 11:00 a.m. start.
