Women's Gymnastics Defeats RIC on the Strength of Audrey Lastra's All-Around School Record
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – January 28, 2007 – Springfield’s Audrey Lastra captured the all-around in spectacular fashion allowing the Springfield College women’s gymnastics team to defeat their counterparts from Rhode Island College, 182.525 to 168.350, Sunday afternoon at SC’s Blake Arena.
With the win, Springfield becomes 4-1, while RIC falls to 0-5.
Lastra, a freshman from New Milford, Conn., scored a school-record 37.475 in the all-around. SC’s old school mark was 37.375, held by Keriann Hart in 2004.
Lastra finished first on the balance beam with a sparkling score of 9.625. She also placed second on the floor exercise with a score of 9.525, second on the uneven parallel bars (9.150), and third on the vault (9.175).
Others for SC who placed first were freshman Jeanna Bradle (New Milford, Conn.) in the vault (9.325), sophomore Kristin Fairburn (Salem, N.H.) in the uneven parallel bars (9.500), and junior Cara Chadbourne (New Salem, Mass.) in the floor exercise (9.550).
The Springfield women captured all four events as a team en route to the team victory. In the vault, SC won by a score of 45.775 to RIC’s 44.650. In the floor exercise, it was SC 46.675 to 42.900. In the balance beam, it was 45.075 to 41.100. And in the bars, it was 45.000 to 39.700.
