Springfield 24th Nationally (of 422) in NACDA Division III Standings (Mid-Winter Report)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- March 20, 2008 -- The Springfield College combined athletics programs are currently ranked 24th nationally in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Division III U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings in their just-released Mid-Winter Report. There are now 422 Division III athletics programs in the NCAA. This report includes all fall sports, plus women's swimming & diving, men's and women's indoor track and field, and wrestling. The report does not include men's basketball, women's basketball, or men's swimming & diving.

Springfield College currently has 237 points. That includes 120 points from the fall, and 117 points thus far in the winter. Springfield will likely benefit from its six athletes (five swimmers, one diver) currently competing in the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships in Miami, Ohio, which started earlier today.

Williams College of Williamstown, Mass. is now leading the overall NACDA Division III team standings with 494.25 points. Others in the Top 5 include Washington (Mo.) with 480.50, Wisconsin-Lacrosse with 468.50, Wartburg (Iowa) with 402.75, and Amherst with 400.50.

The final Division III Winter U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings will be released on April 3. Men's basketball, women's basketball, men's ice hockey, women's ice hockey, and men's swimming & diving will be added.

The Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine men's and nine women's.
