

Springfield jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles play, and then went on to win all six singles matches. Five of those six singles matches were determined in straight sets.
Doubles were played first. Weinstein (Allentown, Pa.) and Shaw (Walpole, Mass.) combined to easily defeat the Golden Bears' Meredith Hughes and Kristen Ayers, 8-1. Springfield also won easily at No. 3 doubles, 8-0, behind sophomore Funmi Olowookere (Woonsocket, R.I.) and freshman Kyla Walgren (West Hartford, Conn.). The Pride's only loss of the day came at No. 2 doubles as WNEC's Sara Peck and Aimee Schapp won 8-6.
In singles, Weinstein defeated Hughes, 7-6(3), 6-3 at No. 1. Shaw defeated Ayers, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2. At No. 3, SC sophomore Rachel Kushma (London, England) edged Peck, 6-7(3), 6-3, then 10-8 in a super tiebreaker.
The final three singles were won by the Pride's Sara Russo, a sophomore from Amsterdam, N.Y. (7-5, 6-1), Olowookere (6-4, 6-2), and Walgren (6-1, 6-0).
