MIDDLETOWN, Conn., September 14, 2005 - Springfield College junior forward Matt Aucoin (Canton, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season in the 54th minute of play, temporarily tying the match, but it was the Wesleyan University Cardinals that went on to defeat the Pride Wednesday (Sept. 14), 3-2, in non-conference action in Middletown, Conn.
After Aucoin's goal that tied the score (2-2), the match remained deadlocked and seemed headed for overtime. But with just 1:27 left in the second stanza, Wesleyan (1-1) junior midfielder put home the game-winner off a feed from junior forward Jared Ashe. The goal was Owen's second of the match.
SC (0-4) sophomore midfielder Tony Distasio (Burlington, Conn.) scored the first goal of Wednesay's match and his second of the season in the 13th minute of action.
The Pride returns home this weekend as they will host Wheaton College in its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener on Saturday evening, September 17, in a 7:00 p.m. start.
