

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – May 25, 2007 – Jaclyn Alessi and Ashley Martell of Springfield College have been named to the 2007 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association All-Berkshire Regional 2nd Team.
Alessi and Martell were both senior captains for the Pride. Alessi, a defender, hails from Branford, Conn. Martell, an attacker, is a native of Billerica, Mass. Both helped lead Springfield to an overall record of 10-8. The Pride finished in a tie for third in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference regular season with a 3-3 mark, and ultimately lost in the semifinals of the conference tournament to eventual champion Babson.
Martell led Springfield College in all three scoring categories with 44 goals and 28 assists for 72 points. Ashley finished first in the league in assists, second in points, and ninth in goals. She was also first in the league in assists per game (1.56), and third in points per game (4.00). Ashley also had very good totals in three other categories with 26 ground balls, 23 draw controls, and 16 caused turnovers.
As a defender, Alessi had no goals or assists, but she made herself known in other ways. Jaclyn was the only defender to make First Team All-NEWMAC. Alessi’s statistics included 42 ground balls (fifth in the league) and 21 caused turnovers (tied for ninth in the league). Her 2.47 ground balls per game were eighth best in the conference.
Kristen Mullady ‘00, has been named an assistant professor of physical education and head women’s lacrosse coach at Springfield College. A former standout for Springfield’s women’s lacrosse team, Mullady returns to her alma mater to head up a program that went 12-6 and reached the conference tournament championship game a year ago.
