MEDFORD, Mass., February 5, 2004 – Springfield College senior All-American
Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) won the shot put (51 feet) and placed sixth in the weight throw (44-3 1/4) as the Pride finished third out of 11 teams with 97.50 team points at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.
In the field events, Pride senior captain
Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) took first in the long jump (21-2. 3/4), while sophomore Jeff Cogan placed first in the triple jump (43-5) and fifth in the high jump (6-2 3/4). Senior All-American
Justin Welch (Woburn, Mass.) was second in the high jump (6-4 3/4) and sophomore
Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass.) finished second in the shot put (48-3 1/4).
In the running events, it was Pride junior All-American
Billy King (Wilmington, Mass.) finishing second in the 200 meters (23.03), while senior
Jason Burnell (Poland, Maine) placed sixth in the 400 meters (53.56).
On the women's side, senior captain
Sarah Martin (Madison, N.H.) won the triple jump (35-4 1/2) and placed second in the 55-meter hurdles (9.03) as the Pride finished third out of 12 teams with 114 points at the Tufts Invitational.
Pride sophomore
Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) sprinted to first in the
55 meters (7.50), while junior
Sarah Tyman (Suffield, Conn.) ran to a second place in the 600 meters (1:41.32). SC junior
Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.) placed third in the 400-meter dash (1:01.60).
In the field events, SC senior
Amanda Alpert (Saugus, Mass.) was first in the shot put (40-1/2); while senior
Christina Davis (Orange, Conn.) took second in the shot put (39-1 1/4) and weight throw (43-1/4). SC sophomore
Natasha Landon (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) was runner-up in the pole vault (10-0).
Both teams travel to either MIT or Boston University on Saturday, February 12.
