No. 11 Wheaton Shuts Down Women's Lacrosse, 11-4
NORTON, Mass.- Springfield College senior forward Erin Looney (West Springfield, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist, but it was No. 11 Wheaton College defeating the Pride, 11-4, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Keefe Fied.
Wheaton gained sole possession of first place in the conference and extended its NEWMAC winning streak to 13 games with today's victory, improving to 6-2 on the season and an unblemished 3-0 in the NEWMAC. Springfield falls to .500 with an overall record of 4-4 and 2-1 mark in the conference.
Springfield senior Spring Silverman (Huntington, PA/Acad. New Church) put the Pride up, 1-0 three minutes into the game, but six unasnswered goals made the score, 6-1, at halftime.
Wheaton opened the second half with three more goals to take a 9-1 lead, before three-straight Pride goals made it a 9-4 game. The Lyons would add two more tallies for their 13th-straight conference victory.
Springfield freshman goalie Kristin Vaccaro (Southington, Conn.) was credited with 11 stops for the Pride, which returns to action on Tuesday (April 12) at Smith in a 4:00 p.m. game in Northampton.
