SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 30, 2004 - Springfield College sophomore forward Matt Aucoin (Canton, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the match as the Pride defeated Coast Guard, 1-0, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s soccer action this afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.
Aucoin notched his third goal of the season in the 35th minute when he lobbed a shot over the goalkeeper and into the side netting. All of the goals tallied by Aucoin this season have proved to be match-winners.
Freshman back Ted Feeley (Syracuse, N.Y.) shined defensively for the Pride. With eight minutes left and the goalkeeper out of net, Feeley headed away a Bear’s shot that would have equalized the match.
With the victory, the Pride, who is 6-2 this season at home, will host Coast Guard in the first round of the NEWMAC Tournament. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 1:30 p.m.
