No. 6 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Harvard, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 3, 2006 – Springfield College freshman outside hitter Ryan Fredrickson (Manahawkin, N.J.) led all players with 17 kills on 24 swings and just two errors for an impressive .625 hitting percentage as the No. 6 Pride defeated Harvard University, 3-0, in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Conference-Hay Division action this evening at Blake Arena.

SC won all three games by scores of 30-23, 30-25, and 30-26 as the Pride improves to 8-10 overall and a solid 6-2 in EIVA-Hay play. The Crimson falls to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the EIVA-Hay Division.

Sophomore outside hitter Eric Palumbo (Rochester, N.Y.) added 12 kills for SC to go along with a match-best seven digs and three service aces in the victory. Freshman middle blocker Andrew Sipe (New Oxford, Pa.) led all players with six blocks in the match, as he recorded a .462 hitting percentage with eight kills and two errors on 13 swings.

Harvard was led by senior opposite Seamus McKiernan with 16 kills and six digs to go along with three blocks despite the loss. Crimson junior setter Dave Fitz chipped in with a team-high five blocks and 29 assists.

The Pride will next host East Stroudsburg University in yet another EIVA-Hay Division match tomorrow evening, March 4, in a 7:00 p.m. start in Blake Arena.
