Women's Volleyball Rolls Past Smith, 3-1

NORTHAMPTON, Mass., October 11, 2005 - Springfield College senior opposite Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) totaled a team-high 15 kills to go along with 20 digs and junior libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) recorded a team-best 38 digs as the Pride defeated Smith College, 3-1 (26-30, 30-27, 30-28, 30-24), in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday evening, October 11, in Worcester, Mass.

With the win, SC remains perfect in NEWMAC action this season at 6-0, as the Pride improves to 21-4 overall. After dropping the first game, SC rallied off three-straight games to take the match by a 3-1 margin. Senior setter Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) tallied 49 assists in the match for the Pride and juniors Jody Pfeifer (Northglenn, Colo.) and MaryKathryn O'Neil (Liverpool, N.Y.) added 13 and 12 kills, respectively.

Junior outside hitter Nicole Curtin (Beacon, N.Y.) had a solid match for SC, collecting 11 kills and 12 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Caitlin Mulroy (Syracuse, N.Y.) continued her solid play with 21 digs, four assists and two service aces.

SC has this weekend off and will next host MIT in a crucial conference match-up next Tuesday, October 18, in a 7:00 p.m. start in Blake Arena.
