Danielle Spiro Named NEWMAC Softball Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – April 23, 2007 – Danielle Spiro of Springfield College was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week earlier this week.

Spiro is a sophomore outfielder from South Windsor, Conn.. She also performs in the designated player position, and is currently batting third in the strong SC line-up.

In a 3-1 week for the Pride, which clinched its first regular-season NEWMAC title, Spiro batted .385 in four games. She had five hits in 13 at-bats, scoring five runs, and knocking in eight more. Her hit totals included two doubles and a home run. Her three-run home run provided all the runs in a 3-0 victory over MIT. Her slugging percentage was .769 in that four-game span.

Head Coach Julie Perrelli

Julie Perrelli Julie Perrelli was been named an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Softball Coach at Springfield College in June of 2009. The head softball coach at Smith for the past three years, Perrelli received both her doctorate (this past May) and her masters in 2004 from Springfield College, where she served as a graduate assistant for the Pride from the 2003 through 2006 seasons.
