SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 25, 2006 – Springfield College junior attacker Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) scored three goals and assisted on another score for a total four offensive points, but it was the Pride which was edged by Plymouth State University, 11-10, in non-conference play this evening on Benedum Field.
For SC, it snaps a five-game winning streak as the Pride falls to 9-5 overall on the season. The Panthers have recorded their fifth consecutive victory, improving to 10-5 overall on the year. Plymouth State was led by junior midfielder Kelsey MacDonald with a game-high four goals.
The first half of action was back-and-forth for the full 30 minutes. SC scored the first three goals of the contest, with Eidse netting the Pride’s first two scores, and freshman attacker Heather Dobson (Longmeadow, Mass.) finding the back of the net to put SC up 3-0. Plymouth State then scored two consecutive goals, and after another Dobson score, the Panthers went on a 3-0 run to enjoy their first lead of the game, at 5-4.
In the final 10:30 of the opening stanza, the Pride went on a 5-2 run to take a 9-7 lead into the break, highlighted by a stretch where SC scored four-straight goals. The 4-0 run was led by senior midfielder Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.), as she scored her 32nd and 33rd goals of the season.
In the second half, Plymouth State tied the score at nine apiece with goals from captains Nicole Evans and Amanda Spadafora. Pride junior midfielder Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.) then scored her team-leading 39th goal of the season with 21:19 left in the contest to temporarily put SC up, 10-9.
Panther senior attacker Bethany Brown tied the game up once again, this time at 10 goals apiece, with just 13:23 left to play, and with 10:10 left in regulation, Plymouth State’s MacDonald scored her fourth goal of the contest in what proved to be the game-winner. The Pride fired an assault of shots on Panther goalie Sarah Beebe in the final 10 minutes of action, but was unable to connect on any, as SC fell one score shy of tying the game. Beebe made 11 saves in net for Plymouth.
For the Pride, Carmody and Dobson finished with two scores each. For the Panthers, Brown and Spadafora also tallied two scores apiece. Plymouth State junior attacker Annie Pinault had one goal and an assist in the win.
