

AMHERST, Mass., September 10, 2005 - Springfield College senior Meg Young (Hurley, N.Y.) finished second out of 60 runners to lead the Pride to a third-place finish at Saturday afternoon's (Sept. 10) Amherst Invitational. SC compiled 82 total team points to place third, with Amherst winning the Invitational at 19 points.
Young covered the 5K course in a time of 19:11.1 to finish second overall in SC's season-opening race. Young has ran extremely well in this event in the past, finishing second this fall and third in the fall of 2004.
SC's Lara Dalidowitz finished 16th overall with a time of 20:53.7, and sophomore Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) placed 20th with a 21:16.1 time.
The Pride will next compete in the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 17, in a 11:15 a.m. start.
Jim Pennington enters his 26th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2008-2009. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
