Women’s Track & Field Finishes Fifth at DIII New England

Sarah Tyman (Suffield, Conn.) broke the school record in the 600 meters as the Pride took fifth place at the Division III New England Championships on Saturday, hosted by Smith College.
Tyman earned All-New England honors for her fourth-place finish in the 600 with a time of 1:40.26. Six-time All-American Marisa Clapp held the previous record of 1:40.94. Junior
Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) also earned All-New England honors as she placed third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.42 seconds.
In the field events, senior co-captain
Sarah Martin (Madison, N.H.) placed third in the triple jump (35 feet-four and a half inches). Sophomore
Natasha Landon (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) finished fourth in the pole vault with a season-best 10-6.
The Pride finished fifth out of 24 scoring teams with 43 points. Williams won the meet (212), followed by Tufts (125), Amherst (73), and Southern Maine (46).

Jim Pennington enters his 26th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2009-2010. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
