Veazie Leads No. 14 Field Hockey Past Plymouth State, 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 23, 2007)Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) tallied both of the Springfield College field hockey team's goals, as the No. 14 Pride defeated Plymouth State, 2-1, on Tuesday evening at Stagg Field.

With the win, the Pride improve to 15-3 on the season while the Panthers had their five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 9-6.

After a scoreless first half, Veazie tallied the first goal of the game when she found the back of the cage off a feed from Morgan Rein (Mystic, Conn.) with 28:47 remaining in the game.

However, Plymouth State answered right back to knot the contest at a goal apiece when sophomore forward Morgan Lemmon (Gilford, N.H.) tallied the equalizer five minutes later at the 23:41 mark.

Veazie, who took 11 shots in the game, recorded the game-winning marker with just 3:57 remaining in the game. With her two goals in the match, Veazie has registered 16 goals this season, six of which have been game-winners.

Emma Kaplan (Ridgefield, Conn.) picked up the win in goal for Springfield as she made eight saves on the evening. Her counterpart, senior Leah Kurtin (Londonderry, N.H.), kept the Panthers in the game throughout and finished with 17 saves.

The Pride will wrap up the regular season with a home game on Thursday evening against non-conference foe Trinity. The game is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Stagg Field.
