Sharpe and Maciarello Named Empire 8 Co-Players of Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 7, 2005 - Springfield College sophomore quarterback Chris Sharpe (Derry, NH) has been named the Empire 8 Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, and junior defensive back Lucas Maciarello (Stillwater, NY) has been named Empire 8 Co-Defensive Player of the Week in football. Sharpe has also been named this week's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northeast Offensive Player of the Week.

Sharpe, a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, rushed 23 times for 251 yards and three touchdowns in a 59-35 win over Hartwick on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 5). He ran for scores of three, 43 and 58 yards, and fell just 17 yards shy of SC's single-game rushing record of 268 yards set back in 1987. Sharpe also completed a pass for 31 yards, giving him 282 yards of total offense on the day. This week marks the second week this season that Sharpe has been honored by the Empire 8 in the conference's weekly report, as Sharpe was also named the Empire 8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week back on October 2.

Maciarello, a graduate of Schuylerville High School, tied a single-game school record with three interceptions, returning them for a total of 71 yards. He also added five tackles for the Pride.

The Pride will wrap up its regular season at home this Saturday, November 12, against Norwich University in an Empire 8 Conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
