NEW LONDON, CONN.- September 22, 2007-Sophomore Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) scored the only goal of the game 2:38 into the second half as Springfield beat Coast Guard 1-0 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
The Pride, which have won back-to-back games, improve to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
Junior Dan Cotter (Stoughton, Mass.) picked up his second assist of the season as he fed Schippers for the game's lone goal.
Senior BJ Sturdivant (Bear, Del.) made four saves to record his second-straight shutout.
Coast Guard (5-2, 0-1), playing its conference opener, had its three-game win streak snapped as it outshot Springfield 16-14. Coast Guard goalkeeper freshman Chris Tarbell allowed his first career goal. Tarbell had recorded three straight shutouts entering the game. He made five saves in the game.
The Pride returns to action when it hosts Amherst on Wednesday evening. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
