

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 26, 2007 – Springfield College senior attack Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.) has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week as announced on Monday afternoon, March 26th.
Martell, a graduate of Billerica High School, scored a game-high four goals to go along with two assists, five ground balls, and six total points of offense as the Pride cruised past non-conference foe Keene State College, 15-4, in SC’s lone game of the week on Thursday, March 22nd.
A senior quad-captain, Martell currently leads the 4-1 Pride on the young season with 14 goals and three assists for 17 total points. Martell has also added seven ground balls, seven caused turnovers, and four draw controls on the year. Martell is already amongst the conference leaders in numerous statistical categories this season, as she is tied for fourth in points per game (3.4), sixth in points (17) and goals per game (2.8), and tied for eighth in caused turnovers (7).
Currently in the early stages of her senior campaign, Martell has racked up career totals of 82 goals, 51 assists, and 133 total points to date. SC next hosts Plymouth State University on Tuesday evening, March 27th at 7:00 p.m. before hosting Amherst College on Thursday night, March 28th, in another 7:00 p.m. start.
Kristen Mullady ‘00, has been named an assistant professor of physical education and head women’s lacrosse coach at Springfield College. A former standout for Springfield’s women’s lacrosse team, Mullady returns to her alma mater to head up a program that went 12-6 and reached the conference tournament championship game a year ago.
