

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 13, 2005 – Springfield College senior opposite Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) totaled 17 kills just three games as the Pride opened up its New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) season with a 3-0 (30-15, 30-14, 30-16) sweep over Mount Holyoke College Tuesday night (Sept. 13) in Blake Arena.
SC senior setter Alesia Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) tallied 26 assists for the Pride, and sophomore setter Alyssa Muething (Plainsboro, N.J.) had a great service night for Springfield, compiling four aces as SC rallied off 11-straight points during one of Muething's service streaks. The Pride improves to 8-1 overall on the season, 1-0 in conference action.
Mount Holyoke (1-3) senior opposite Bis Cole totaled nine digs and four kills for the Lyons.
Springfield will next travel to Worcester Polytechnic Institute for yet another NEWMAC match-up on Saturday afternoon, September 17, in a 1:00 p.m. match start.
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
