Men's Lacrosse Too Much for Mass. Maritime, 20-4, in Pilgrim Lacrosse League Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 24, 2007 – Springfield College sophomore attack Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) racked up career-highs in assists (six) and points (nine) to go along with three goals as the Pride notched its first victory of the season, 20-4, over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy this afternoon at Benedum Field in the Pilgrim Lacrosse League opener for both teams.

SC senior captain Drew Ginsberg (Takoma Park, Md.) came off the bench to equal Beebe’s total of three scores as the Pride improves to 1-5 overall on the season and 1-0 in Pilgrim League action. The Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime fall to 0-2 on the young season and 0-1 in conference play.

SC junior midfielder Tyler Montgomery (Brunswick, Me.), sophomore midfielder Chris Jez (Somers, Conn.), and freshman attack Joe Heney (Plainview, N.Y.) each chipped in with two goals apiece in the winning effort. Jez also registered five ground balls. Senior midfielder Adam Toutain (Sabattus, Me.) added one goal and two assists.

Mass. Maritime was led by Sean Flanigan, as the senior attack contributed on all four Buccaneer scores with two goals and two assists. Attackmen John Herman and Ed Klodarska netted the other two scores for Mass. Maritime. Freshman Chris Perry played all 60 minutes in goal for the Buccaneers, making 14 saves.

The Pride opened the contest on a 4-0 run and never looked back, leading 6-1 at the end of the first quarter and 12-2 at the half. Senior Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) gets the win in net for SC, making six saves in 30 minutes of action. The Pride will next travel to Lasell College for yet another Pilgrim Lacrosse League game on Saturday afternoon, March 31st, in a 1:00 p.m. start.
