Men's Indoor Track Takes 4th at the New England Division III Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – February 17, 2007 – Alex Kampersal was Springfield College’s top finisher at the 2007 New England Division III Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championships today at Bates College in Lewiston, Me.

Kampersal, a senior All-American and captain from Natick, Mass., finished first in the shot put with a toss of 51-feet, 1 ½-inches.

As a team, SC finished fourth of 24 scoring teams at the Championships. Williams College captured first place with a total of 152 points, followed by Tufts with 103, MIT 79, Springfield 58, and Bowdoin 46. Rounding out the top 10 was host Bates 44, Eastern Connecticut 41, Coast Guard 36, Southern Maine 35, and Trinity 24.

Others who did well for SC included the 4x400 relay team which finished second with a time of 3:26.12. Sophomore Eric Nacsin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) placed third in the 600 at 1:23.66. Also placing third was senior captain Jeff Cogan (Walworth, N.Y.) with a high jump of 6-feet, 3 ½-inches.

Two SC athletes placed fourth. They were freshman Steve Headley (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the 55-meter dash (6.52 seconds), and junior Dominic Uguccioni (Colrain, Mass.) in the weight throw (54-8 ¼).

In fifth place were sophomore Mike Griffin (Scarborough, Me.) in the 1000 (2:31.47), and junior Nick DeCelle (Mechanicville, N.Y.) in the triple jump (44-11).

Placing sixth were senior Dave Forrette (Chicopee, Mass.) in the 400 (51.33), and DeCelle in the long jump (21-4 ¼).

In seventh were sophomore Chris Okerblom (Salisbury, Md.) in the 600 (1:25.22), and junior Mike Miller (Storrs, Conn.) in the indoor pentathlon (3172 points).
