

Springfield has scored 20 points after just three events on the women's side. Amherst is in first with 23 points, Bates in third with 14. On the men's side, SC has scored seven points after four events. Host Coast Guard is in first with 37.
For Springfield, junior Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 38-4 3/4. Following her in the same event, senior Kayla Robertson (Peace Dale, R.I.) placed fifth at 35-1 1/4. Thus, the Pride reaped 14 points from that event alone. Junior Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) garnered the other six points by finishing third in the hammer throw with a toss of 153-5.
The SC men also had three competitors score points. Senior Mike Miller (Storrs, Conn.) finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 21-feet even. Senior Dominick Uguccioni (Colrain, Mass.) also finished sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 172-11. Also in the hammer, senior John Lewis (Fitchburg, Mass.) had a toss of 163-4, thus adding a point for his eighth place finish.
Day 2 of the New England Division III competition is Saturday, May 3.
