Women's Gymnastics Finishes 14th in the 2006 NACGC/W Academic All-American Team Standings

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., August 9, 2006 – Springfield College’s 2006 women’s gymnastics team has finished 14th overall in this year’s National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Academic All-American Team standings.

Throughout the past academic year, the Pride gymnasts combined for an impressive team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.408 to capture 14th overall in the national standings. Southern Utah University finished first in the team standings with a GPA of 3.654, as Winona State University finished second at 3.599, and Yale University rounded out the top three at 3.579.

In the same announcement made by the NACGC/W, nine different SC women’s gymnasts received Academic All-American status individually. Heading the list for the Pride was freshman Jenna Williams (Townsend, Mass.), who finished her first academic year with a 3.91 grade-point average. Senior Brianna Jeffords (Amherst, N.Y.) finished just behind Williams with a 3.90 GPA. Sophomore Kerry McGowan (East Lyme, Conn.) was next on the list for SC with a 3.86 grade-point average, and freshman Penelope Bohunko (Wilkes Barre, Pa.) joined the Pride’s Academic All-America list with a 3.84 GPA.

Sophomore Alice Efland (Auburn, Maine) completed her 2005-06 academic year with a 3.80 grade-point average to join the list, as freshman Mary Cellini (Downington, Pa.) also achieved All-America status with her 3.72 GPA. Other members of the Pride that were also honored consisted of sophomore Lauryn Ginsburg (Beverly, Mass.), with a 3.57 grade-point average, Katlyn Cronin (Manchester, N.H.), with a 3.56 GPA, and senior Lyndsay Roy (North Andover, Mass.), who boasts 3.53 grade-point average.
