No. 9 Wrestling Finishes Fourth At Ithaca College Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y., November 6, 2005 - Springfield College junior Ryan Hannigan (Wyantskill, N.Y.) finished second in the 125-pound division, compiling a 4-1 record on the weekend as the Pride, ranked ninth nationally in the first Division III National Wrestling Coaches Association Team Poll of the season, finished fourth as a team out of 16 competing squads at this weekend's Ithaca College Wrestling Invitational.

Other second-place finishers for the Pride included sophomore Jake Tyler (Gouverneur, N.Y.) in the 157-pound division, and senior Bill Koch (Hackettstown, N.J.) in the 165-pound weight class. Both Tyler and Koch recorded 4-1 records on the weekend to help lead SC to 122.50 team points. The College of New Jersey, ranked sixth nationally in the same Division III poll, won the Invitational with 152.50 team points. No. 16 Cortland finished second with an even 151 points, and No. 28 Oswego State rounded out the top three with 131.00 total team points.

Other top performances for SC included senior Derek McNerney (Baldwin, N.Y.), who finished third for the Pride in the 125-pound division, recording a 6-1 record on the weekend, sophomore Elliot Smith (Richville, N.Y.), who finished fifth in the 184-pound weight class with a 4-1 record, and senior Jason Leckey (Guilford, Conn.) with a fifth-place finish in the 197-pound division (4-2).

SC will next compete in The College of New Jersey Tournament next weekend, on Sunday, November 13.
