Lauren Peltier Named NEWMAC Co-Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 24, 2006 - Freshman Adrian Schippers and sophomore Lauren Peltier of the Springfield College men’s and women’s soccer teams have been named New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Co-Players of the Week in each of their respective sports.

Schippers, a forward from Ashby, Mass., currently leads the men’s soccer team with seven goals and is tied for second on the team with four assists. Adrian’s best match of the year came this past weekend (Oct. 21) at MIT. Trailing by a goal in the 81st minute, Schippers netted a score that was assisted by sophomore back Jeremy Scheer (Enfield, Conn.). Two minutes later, Adrian then added his second of the match and team-leading seventh of the year to put the Pride up, 4-3. That goal would ultimately prove to be the game-winner.

Peltier, a midfielder from Agawam, Mass., is currently second on the team in goals with four and is responsible for one assist on the season. Peltier, like Schippers, had her best week of the season last week in two matches, on October 17th against Mount Holyoke College and on October 21st against Wellesley College. Against Mount Holyoke, Peltier assisted on the Pride’s first goal and then scored one of her own for SC’s second goal of the match, all taking place in the first half. Those two goals were the first of five scored by SC that day in a 5-0 win. Four days later, Peltier scored her fourth goal of the season, which eventually counted as the Pride’s game-winner against Wellesley in a tight match that ended in favor of SC, 2-1.

Peltier and the women’s soccer team is currently 10-4 overall and 6-2 in NEWMAC play. The Pride's last match of the season is against conference foe, WPI, in a match that will be played at Springfield College under the lights tonight at 7:00 p.m.

The men’s team is currently 5-10-2 overall and 2-4 in conference play. SC will play its last match of the regular-season at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, October 25th.
