SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 25, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore midfielder Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.) has been honored as this week’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Player of the Week for the second week in a row, in a report released on Monday morning, September 25th.
Kelleher, a graduate of Harwich High School, scored four of the Pride’s six goals in a 2-0 week for SC. She scored the second and third goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 victory over Amherst College last Wednesday night (Sept. 20). Kelleher also scored the Pride’s first two goals in an important 3-2 overtime victory over Babson College in a rematch of last year’s NEWMAC championship game.
Kelleher has now scored nine goals in seven games to lead SC in goals and points (18). Her nine goals ties her for the NEWMAC lead, and her 18 points ranks her third in the conference. She leads the league in goals per game (1.29) and points per game (2.57). She now has four game-winning goals on the season for the Pride.
With SC’s two wins this week, the Pride ups its overall record to 6-1 on the season as SC is now 1-0 in the conference with the victory over Babson. The Pride will travel to Williams College on Tuesday night, September 26th, for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference game and then head to Clark University for a NEWMAC contest on Saturday afternoon, September 30th, at 1:00 p.m.
After only five years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Rogers, has continued the SC tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 94-24 record, good for a winning percentage of .796 at the helm of her alma mater. She is the reigning NEWMAC Coach of the Year and NFHCA New England East Region Coach of the Year. Read more.
