Women's Track & Field First At Coast Guard Invitational
Complete ResultsNEW LONDON, Conn., Jan. 22, 2005 – Springfield College sophomore Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) finished first in the 55-meter (7.55) and 200-meter (27.97) dashes to lead the women’s track and field team to a first-place finish at the Coast Guard Invitational, Saturday.
Springfield won the meet with 153.83 points, followed by Southern Maine (139.50), Coast Guard (115.33), Conn. College (65), Worcester State (31), Eastern Connecticut (24) and Kings Point (12.33). Junior Christina Davis (Orange,Conn.) also placed first in two events, winning the shot put (40 feet, 2 3/4 inches) and the weight throw (46-1 1/4).
The Pride received strong performances from junior Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.) who finished second in the 400 meters (1:04.3), and senior captain Sarah Martin (Madison, N.H.), who was second in the triple jump (32-11).
Pride sophomore Natasha Landon (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) placed second in the pole vault (10-1 1/4), while freshman Kristyn Meade (Raynham, Mass.) placed second in the 800 meters (2:31.93).
The Pride travels to Bowdoin on Saturday (Jan. 29) to take on the host Polar Bears, MIT and Tufts.

Head Coach Jim Pennington
Jim Pennington enters his 26th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2008-2009. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
