No. 15 Field Hockey Edges Mount Holyoke, 1-0

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass., October 17, 2006 – Springfield College junior forward Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) earned the lone goal in the first half to lead the 15th-ranked Pride over the Lyons in today’s New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match-up. With the win, SC maintains its perfect conference record (7-0) and improves to 13-3 overall. Mount Holyoke falls to 2-4 in the conference and 5-10 overall.

The Pride dominated the opening half with 10 shots on goal to Mount Holyoke’s four shots. Veazie capitalized on one of SC’s chances in the 17th minute (16:41), taking a rebound and knocking the ball past Mount Holyoke's fallen goalkeeper for the eventual game-winner, her 12th goal of the season.

The Lyons increased their offensive pressure in the second half, earning five penalty corners and five shots on goal, but Pride junior goalie Emma Kaplan (Ridgefield, Conn.) played solid between the posts for her third shutout of the season.

Mount Holyoke’s Allie Walsh posted 18 saves for the game, while Kaplan turned aside nine shots for SC.

The Pride will next travel to Wellesley College for its final NEWMAC regular-season contest of the year on Saturday morning, October 21st, in an 11:00 a.m. start. With a win, SC would finish its conference regular-season with a perfect 8-0 mark and would host the NEWMAC Tournament from Saturday, October 28th, until Sunday, November 5th.
