Women's Lacrosse Drops One to #7-Ranked Trinity, Despite McAulay's Heroics

HARTFORD, Conn. – April 12, 2007 – Despite Heather Dobson’s opening goal, the Springfield College women’s lacrosse team lost to Trinity College, 10-3, this afternoon in a non-conference match at Trinity’s Sheppard Field in Hartford.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Pride, dropping it to 7-5 on the season. Ranked 7th in the nation, Trinity upped its record to 7-2.

Dobson, a sophomore attack from Longmeadow, Mass., opened the scoring within the first three minutes of action, giving SC a 1-0 lead. The assist went to senior attack Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.).

But Trinity scored five of the next six goals, including one with just four seconds remaining in the half, to take a 5-2 lead at the intermission.

Senior attack Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) had scored the other SC first-half goal with 5:47 remaining. The assist went to senior attack Kerrigan Murphy (Hamden, Conn.).

In the second half, Springfield’s only goal came with 11:49 remaining. It was scored by Murphy, with the assist going to Martell.

Despite the loss, freshman goalkeeper Lauren McAulay (Yorktown, N.Y.) was credited with 20 saves and played well according to Head Coach Katie Hawke.

Up next, SC will host Wellesley in an important NEWMAC contest Saturday at 3 p.m. at Benedum Field.
