Julie Perrelli Named Head Softball Coach at Springfield College

Springfield, Mass. - June 25, 2009 --Julie Perrelli has been named an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Softball Coach at Springfield College, according to Springfield Director of Athletics Cathie Schweitzer. The head softball coach at Smith for the past three years, Perrelli received both her doctorate (this past May) and her masters in 2004 from Springfield College, where she served as a graduate assistant under Kathy Mangano from the 2003 through 2006 seasons. Springfield Finishes 21st (of 422) in the NACDA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Final Standings

Springfield, Mass. - June 19, 2009 - With the 2008-2009 season having come to a close, Springfield College finished 21st nationally (of 422) in the NACDA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Division III standings. Springfield accumulated a total of 542.25 points this year as it added 187.25 points this spring season. Four differents sports added points for the Pride this spring season as the men's track and field, softball, men's lacrosse, and women's track and field teams all had success on the national level. Three Men's Lacrosse Seniors Chosen To Play In NEILA Senior All-Star Game

Springfield, Mass. - June 1, 2009 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team had three seniors selected to play in the 2009 Turfer/New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Associates (NEILA) East-West Senior All-Star Game. Seniors Tom Albano, Sam Burrell, and Chris Jez all suited up one final time as collegiate lacrosse players on Sunday, May 31, at Tufts University. Read more.

Boston Cannons Draft Jake Beebe in 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft

Hoboken, N.J. - May 28, 2009 - On Wednesday evening, Jake Beebe was selected by the Boston Cannons with the 40th pick of the 2009 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft on the campus of Stevens Institute of Technology. Beebe is the first player in program history to be drafted in the MLL Collegiate Draft and will now play in the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league in the country. Read more.

Springfield College Athletics: Conference/Regional Accolades Continue to Mount

Springfield, Mass. -- May 26, 2009 -- When Jake Beebe was named the Pilgrim Lacrosse League's Player of the Year a few weeks ago, he became the 11th Conference Player of the Year at Springfield College throughout the course of 2008-2009. Conference and Regional accolades continue to pile up for the Pride. This past year, besides the incredible total of 11 conference Players of the Year, Springfield College garnered seven Conference Coaches of the Year (eight if you count one assistant coach), three Conference Rookies of the Year, and eight Conference/Regional team titles. Albano and Delia Highlight ECAC All-Star Honors; Four Pick Up Regional Accolades

Springfield, Mass. - May 27, 2009 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team had four members recognized by the ECAC recently as the 2009 Division III New England Men's Lacrosse All-Stars, Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Rookie of the Year were announced. Tom Albano was named the Goalkeeper of the Year, while Mike Delia was tabbed the Rookie of the year. Teammates Jake Beebe and Sam Burrell joined Albano on the ECAC All-Star First Team. Read more.

Headley NCAA Champion in the 100 Meter Dash; Places Third in the 200; 4x100 Men's Relay Finishes Sixth

Marietta, Ohio -- May 23, 2009 -- Junior Steve Headley of Springfield College had a banner day at the NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field Championships at Marietta College. The win gave Headley his second NCAA Championship this year as he cruised to victory in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.51 seconds. He also finished third in the 200, while SC's 4x100 relay team placed sixth, giving the Pride men a total of 19 team points, allowing SC to tie for 11th of 81 scoring teams. Read more.
