One of the elite programs in Division III, the Pride reached the national championship in 2000 and the national semifinals in 1999. For four consecutive seasons, from 1998 to 2001, a Springfield College player garnered New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year honors, including Melissa Rogers in 2001. Rogers took the head coaching reigns in 2004 from field hockey legend Dottie Potter Zenaty, who retired after 34 years on the SC sidelines.
Since Rogers’ inception three seasons ago, SC has continued its winning ways on the field hockey turf, capturing back-to-back-to-back (2004 through 2006) NEWMAC championships and making three trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament. In 2006, Brittany Veazie was named NFHCA Division III First Team All-American, as well as NEWMAC Player of the Year. In addition, Jane Kelleher was named NFHCA Division III Second Team All-American. Both return in 2007.
Springfield College’s Benedum Field hosted the 2001 and 2002 NCAA Division III Field Hockey National Championships. It was the first time in NCAA history that both semifinal games and the national championship had been played at a pre-determined site. Springfield also hosted the 1984 and 1989 Division I National Championships.
