Men's Volleyball Captures Fifth National Championship With 3-0 Win Over Vassar

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – April 12, 2008 – For the fifth time in program history, the Springfield College men’s volleyball team can call themselves national champions. In front of a raucous crowd of 1,300, the Pride captured the 2008 Molten Division III Men’s Invitational Championship by sweeping Vassar in three games.

Springfield College's Tom Hay Inducted Into the YMCA Volleyball Hall of Fame

Tom Hay, former men's and women's volleyball coach at Springfield College, was inducted into the YMCA Volleyball Hall of Fame in ceremonies at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Atlanta at a luncheon on Saturday, May 24.

Charlie Sullivan has been named the head coach for the 2008 USA Select A1 Camp and Competition, which will be held in Tucson, Arizona, this summer.

About The Team
A storied tradition of success at Springfield College was reinforced in 2008 as the Pride went on to capture its fifth Molten Division III National Championships in front of a packed Blake Arena. SC captured its third consecutive national championship in 2003 with a win at previously top-ranked Juniata. It was the first time a Division III men's volleyball program had won three straight national titles.
At the 2002 national championship, the Pride toppled the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Poll to capture its second straight national championship.
The Pride has finished No. 1 in the final AVCA Division III National Poll an impressive six times (1996, '97, '01, '02, '03, '08).
In the 2008 season, Springfield hit its stride when it counted as it claimed the national crown. Paced by the middle blocker duo of second team AVCA Division III All-American
Andy Sipe and first team AVCA Division III All-American and Newcomer of the Year
Cal Palumbo, the Pride rattled off a 20-7 record in '08.

With four national championships to his credit, Charlie Sullivan will enter his 11th season as head coach of the men's volleyball team in 2009. In 10 previous years at the helm, Sullivan owns an overall record of 139-114 for a .549 winning percentage.
