Springfield, Mass. -- October 13, 2009 -- Despite a victory from freshman
Sam Carney at No. 3 singles, the Springfield College women's tennis team lost to Mount Holyoke College, 8-1, this afternoon at Springfield College's Appleton Courts. The win guaranteed a berth in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference post-season tournament for Mount Holyoke, while Springfield was eliminated, ending its NEWMAC dual-match season.

Springfield College dominated New England women’s tennis from 1985 through 1996, posting an amazing 137-25 record that included a 14-0 mark in 1990, and won eight consecutive New England titles from 1986 to 1993.
With an all-time record of 304-191-4 heading into 2009, the women’s tennis program has a winning percentage of .613. The first match Springfield plays in the fall of 2009 will be its 500th overall.

Tim Losee ’05, G’07 was named the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College in August of 2009. A former four-year member of Springfield’s men’s tennis team, Losee returns to his alma mater to pilot both the men’s and women’s tennis programs.
