Delaney Cantrall: Women's Soccer

Delaney Cantrall
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- November 10, 2008 -- Cantrall had a standout week for the Pride as she helped guide the women's soccer team to the NEWMAC Championship and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

For her outstanding play, she has been selected as the Springfield College Female Maroon Club Athlete of the Week.

A senior back from Santa Paula, Calif., Cantrall put the exclamation point on a phenomenal weekend of athletics at Springfield on Sunday night. In the 2-1 overtime victory over Wheaton in the NEWMAC championship game, Cantrall calmly delivered the game-winner off a penalty kick to give the Pride the victory.

On Saturday, she also assisted on the game-winning tally as her corner kick was headed home by teammate Nicole Hanewich.

Anchoring the Pride's defense, Cantrall has been a main reason why the Pride has won 11 of its last 12 games, while outscoring its opponents 41-4 in that stretch.
